Making our Home a Place We Enjoy
Making things beautiful is one thing I really enjoy doing. I think the Lord likes it when we make things around us to be pleasant and inviting. I think He is pleased when we try to make our home a place where we, our family, and guests enjoy being. There is much more to that than just decorating but it is a part of it.
The good thing is that it doesn't always have to cost a lot of money to do it! There are all kinds of ways we can fix things up. I'm amazed at what a can of paint can do! I often find myself rummaging through old things I've kept and redoing it into something new. Sometimes I'll see something on Clearance that I've been looking for. And I really believe that Jesus can help us in everything, even in things like decorating.
One thing I have definitely learned over the years is that if you're like me, this area can easily become an idol. Once I get an idea in my head, I work until I get it done. That is why in four years I have taken down wallpaper in almost every room of my house. Plus, I really enjoy it a lot more that some other tasks that need to be done. Decorating in and of itself is not wrong, but it gets wrong when I think about it all the time, or spend too much money on it, or become obsessed in some way or think I have to have it. If I get in that place I need to go on a fast from decorating and then I need to guard my heart and do things little by little. It's not worth losing my peace and joy with Jesus or neglecting more important things to get things looking just how I like them. I want to be content and thankful for what I have and not always feeling like I need more. That is not the way to live!
With all that said, here is our home! I really enjoy looking at other peoples homes I love to get the guided tour when we visit someone. So for others who also appreciate it, here it is. :-)
